Because life is way too short to dread Mondays. Okay, let’s jump into today’s episode.
1:01
Hello there, and welcome back to the powerhouse Revolution podcast. I hope you’re keeping well, I am coming to you live with a real life drama that’s happening for me right now at the moment. So as I’m recording this right now, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. Okay, there’s an awful lot going on workwise, there’s a lot going on in my family. And there’s just, there’s just so many moving pieces. So I was speaking to my coach, and I was just like, I’m just gonna jump on my podcast, I’m just going to wing it. And I’m just going to share how ideal when I feel overwhelmed, because I really want you to know that I’m human. And although I’m a coach, and my job is to support you to be more successful, balanced and happy on your terms, and to help you achieve all the things you want and all of that. I’m human. So I’m struggling a little bit at the moment. So I’ll tell you a story. So as I’m recording this right now, I won’t be releasing this for a while, but I am coming up to launch my mastermind group. So if you haven’t heard me talk about it yet, I’m launching or we have launched by the time you listen to this, a an elite level mastermind for women in leadership from director to executive level. Now, to actually launch a new product like this takes an immense amount of work, because there are so many moving pieces, because I want to make sure that it’s epic. So I’ve been working for weeks and weeks and weeks doing market research, building a members portal with like content in there to help my members, you know, get instant momentum. I’ve been building a private community area, I’ve been setting up master classes, I have been writing emails from my email marketing, I’ve been writing social media, and I’ve been trying to get my podcast, my podcast going I have three kids, I have a dog, my sister’s getting married, we’re going to Disneyland soon I’m going to LA soon. Like I can’t even tell you how much stuff is going on in my head right now. So I was talking to my coach and I was just like, I’m just gonna hop on the podcast, I’m gonna keep it real. And I’m gonna share, I suppose what I’m doing right now, as I’m feeling like this, when I know I have a really, really busy period and work in the hope that it will help you too.
3:16
So the first thing I would say is, is to lean in for support. So without my mastermind group and my coach, I would be lost right now I can tell you, I am in an accountability partner with a few women in the group. And I just messaged them, like, Look, girls, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. I don’t even know what to say, Can someone help me? And everyone come back with suggestions and like words of encouragement, just telling me I’m doing great and giving me tips and tricks. And just to feel like I’m not alone has made me feel super, super good. So even just to I suppose have that community support there to help me is fantastic. And that’s exactly why I created my mastermind for you as well if you’re in senior leadership.
3:59
So the second thing that I’ve done is I knew this was going to be a crazy period. So before our when I came back after Christmas, I took a look on my calendar and I knew I’d be preparing for my mastermind launch. And also actually I’ve been preparing for International Women’s Day, there’s just so many pieces and I knew it was gonna be crazy. So instead of me looking and going, oh my god, I’m totally overwhelmed. What I decided to do was I needed to make sure I prioritized self care. So that’s number two. The first one is leaning for support. And the second one is you need to you need to prioritize your self care. So what does self care look like for me? So what it looks like is in advance of a busy period, I book in appointments for myself. So for example, tomorrow I am going for massage next week I’ve booked myself in for a facial and I have hired a personal trainer as well and I those sessions are booked in and I booked in time in my calendar for different activities, you know to make sure that I’m taking care of myself, because the easiest thing to do is to be a busy fool. And is to think that you’re so important that there’s so much work done and work to do that you can step away. But actually, where the gold comes is when you step away, you get so much clarity. So I invite you, if you don’t already do this, if you know you’re in an audit season and work, or you’re preparing for a big launch, or a big project where you know, you’re going to be coming into a really busy period, instead of saying, when this is over, I’ll go for a massage or I go on a holiday, I invite you to actually book some self care activities for you in amid the madness, because what that does is it just gives you a little, I suppose first of all, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. And the time, it’s much closer than if you leave it to the end of whatever you’re doing. And second of all, you just recharge and you come back a little bit more refreshed. So if you don’t already do that, I would love for you to go and just look at your calendar for the next month to see where you’re going to have really busy weeks. And make sure that you pop in some time for yourself in there to take care of you.
6:14
And the other thing that I’m really leaning into at the moment is exercise. So again, it’s very easy to deprioritize exercise and nutrition as well, when you’re busy. So again, to preempt all of this, I have ordered some meals with a meal planning company that will come you know our pre pre match, but I just have to cook. So that’s my food sorted for next week, I booked in my personal training sessions. And I committed in my accountability partner, my mastermind, I’ve asked them to hold me accountable to my exercise. So what we do is, you know, we always ask, look, what I what I want to be held accountable for this week is blur. And for me, it’s not always business. This is the beauty of mastermind, it’s not always business, I’m like, right? This week, I want to I wanted to help hold me accountable for actually committing to my exercise and going for my walks. And then at the end of the week, I’ll update and see you know how many days I actually did it. And it just helps me knowing that there’s a community there beside behind me, holding me accountable to stay on the right path. So that’s really, really helping as well.
7:25
The other thing that I’m doing as well is again, it’s the complete opposite of what you probably think you should do, is I’m actually making more time for my family and friends. Because, again, it’s so easy to go into the office or to you know, stay at home and just stay stuck in the laptop amid this busy season. But it’s just you’re not going to have the same clarity. So I believe that if you you know, you make time for other people and you give back, you will actually you will recharge in that way as well. And it just gives you I suppose, different perspectives, it’s are so good. Because when you are going through, like I said, if you’re going through something crazy and work, we’re just manic busy, and you’re back to back and all of that it’s easy to think that your world is the most important world and that you’re the busiest and that you know, you are so important. But your family and friends have gone on to and you know they need you. So I encourage you to lean in, in those busy times don’t run away.
8:27
And then the other thing I would say is let me just think there was something else I was gonna say to you. Oh, yeah, is have something booked for yourself like a little break or travel at the end of a busy period. So like I said, as I’m recording this right now, I’m just about to launch the mastermind, but you’ll be listening to this in March, probably when I am on one of my trips. So I am due to go to Paris whispering in case the kids hear me. We’re taking the kids to Disneyland Paris. It’s Kate’s seventh birthday on the and we’re going to wake her up the morning of her birthday really early like 4am and tell her we’re going to Disneyland it’s just going to be epic. Because what she doesn’t know is when she was two, we brought Jaden and Sarah made Disneyland and we left her behind what my mother because she was too small and just would have ruined it. But she still doesn’t know the other two went into so that’s going to be epic. And I’m also have my sister’s wedding in March. So you know a lot I booked loads of appointments for myself for that as well. And also I am going to Los Angeles and in March to meet up with my mastermind buddies. So I have lots of things to look forward to afterwards and it’s a little reward for myself. So my invitation for you is that at the end of a busy period in work, please make sure that you treat yourself please make sure you take care of yourself. And please make sure that you you realize that actually, you know sometimes to go faster, you’ve actually got to slow down so just To recap on the five tips that I’m giving you for how to get over all of this overwhelm when you’re going through a really busy period and work.
10:09
Number one, lean in to support so find yourself and accountability pod or ask your friends or join a mastermind, join my mastermind, if you’re, of course, always welcome if you’re if you are at the director to executive level, and really just lean in for that support, don’t you don’t have to do this alone. You don’t have to stay stuck in your head, the word is not on your shoulders. And you’d be surprised when you actually come up and ask for support. How many people are willing to just encourage you and cheer you on along the way.
10:41
The second thing, then is to prioritize self care when you’re in the busy season. Don’t wait until the end, because you will have more clarity, you’ll be more productive, and you’ll just you’ll perform so much better. And you’ll feel so much better. Ican’t even I actually, if you’re multitasking, come back to me because I really want to bring you back to this self care thing. Because I know you and I know that when you get super, super busy, you lock yourself away, and you just keep working and working and working and working. It’s not the answer. It’s not how successful people operate. I can tell you that with certainty because I am now in groups with like amazing CEOs, female CEOs who are making millions and millions and millions in their businesses. Okay, I have interviewed top women all over the world, I have researched the top male CEOs, and they all prioritize themselves. Whereas in the corporate world, you feel you’re so important that you have to do the work. But I promise you, that is not the key to success. So I want you to break that pattern, break those thought processes, and I want you to take care of yourself. So your action from this podcast today, right now, as I want you to when you’re finished. Get out your phone, if you’re on your phone right now, I want you to decide, are you going to go for a massage? Are you going to get your hair done? Are you going to get your nails done? Or what are you going to do for yourself, I want you to do something for yourself today, I want you to book an appointment, and DM me on Instagram and let me know what you did. Because I want you to take care of you. And then let me know how you feel afterwards.
11:39
Okay. The third thing then after self care is to lean into exercise and nutrition. So to get prepared, make sure you book in your walks book in your runs book in your your car gym sessions, your your dance classes, whatever. And actually, I never told you that I’ve started a dance class as well, on a Monday night, which I’m absolutely loving. So that’s really fun.
12:40
Number four is family. So again, don’t back away from your family and friends lean into your family and friends in these periods, get different perspectives, realize that everything that’s going on in your world is not the only thing going on, other people have shipped to.
12:54
And number five, make sure that you have regular breaks and you have little mini breaks or things to look forward to for yourself.
13:01
So that is it. For today’s episode. It was very raw and real. You are getting me made made kind of chaos at the moment. And these are the things I’m doing. And they work for me, you know, we’re a work in progress. I’m not perfect, nobody is what the difference is, is that I will do these things. And therefore I will get through this a lot easier than if I didn’t do these things. And my invitation for you is I want you to do the same. So if you want to see all the behind the scenes of everything that’s going on with me at the moment, I’ll be sharing everything over on my Instagram. So if you are not already following me on Instagram, please come over. My name is Lucy Gernon very simple. There’s a big hot pink background most likely on my profile photo, you’ll see me there.
