#29 Are You a Perfectionist or a High-Achiever?
The 360 Leadhership Podcast, Episode 29, 13 July 2022 by Lucy Gernon
Do you like things done right and when they’re not, you feel anxious?
Do you have precise, high standards for yourself, your team, and the people around you?
You are not alone. I’ve been there too but I found a way to reduce anxiety and shift my mindset around how things “should” be done.
Perfectionism shows up in different ways for different people. You may be a perfectionist in your home but don’t have the same standards for your work or vice versa.
Or you may need to portray a perfect image of yourself and feel stressed if something doesn’t look just right.
In the workplace, perfectionists can be hard to work with.
Their relentless view on the details may cause unnecessary stress and cause a team to miss out on seeing the bigger picture.
But we all need to realise – life is for learning. Mistakes equal growth.
This is something I had to learn the hard way. Now I look at myself as a high achiever, a go-getter.
In this episode, I tell a powerful story about my crooked laundry room sign (image below) that may just shift how YOU think about things needing to be perfect.
You’ll be surprised to learn how this off-centre sign changed everything!
